Why This Work Matters

Students’ mental health and emotional well-being are foundational to learning, belonging, and long-term success. Educators and school staff play a critical role in supporting student wellness and benefit from clear guidance, coordinated systems, and access to responsive supports.

The School-Based Mental Health and Wellness program partners with districts, schools, and community providers to strengthen coordinated, equitable access to mental health supports for students. Our work supports students and school staff through prevention-focused practices, early intervention strategies, and responsive care so students can learn in environments where they feel safe, supported, and connected.

By aligning school-based practices with community resources and county systems, SCOE helps build sustainable mental health frameworks that support students, staff, and families across Siskiyou County.

Our Impact in Action

Student-Centered Support
Counselors and wellness coaches provide direct services that meet students where they are—supporting regulation, connection, and growth.

Prevention and Early Intervention
Intentional SEL instruction builds foundational skills such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, and relationship-building, serving as a core prevention strategy. When paired with strength-based universal screening, schools can identify needs early and respond before challenges escalate.

Connected Systems
By coordinating with schools and community partners, we reduce fragmentation and ensure students experience seamless, aligned support.

Collective Capacity Building
Through professional learning and staff collaboration, schools strengthen their ability to support student mental health over time.
