Quality Counts Siskiyou
Why is Quality Important?
Research shows that children who attend high quality early childhood programs are happier, more confident, more successful, and better prepared for the future. These children often enter Kindergarten more focused, more comfortable in a school setting, and with skills to grow as learners. It is often easier for them to form friendships, cooperate, resolve conflict and express themselves clearly and effectively. In addition, they are more likely to graduate from high school, avoid juvenile delinquency, and earn higher salaries.
What is Quality Counts Siskiyou?
Quality Counts Siskiyou (QCS) is a locally-implemented quality rating and improvement system (QRIS). It supports early childhood centers, preschools, and family child care homes that voluntarily commit to continuous quality improvement based on state and nationally recognized quality standards.
Ratings can provide an additional tool for families as they find the best setting for their child.
Who are the participants?
Quality Counts Siskiyou (QCS) participants include license-exempt FFNs (families, friends and neighbors providing childcare), family childcare homes, private centers, all Siskiyou County state preschool programs, and all Siskiyou Head Start and Early Head Start center-based programs.
All QCS programs voluntarily commit to a continuous quality improvement process based on their particular needs, interests, and capacity. QCS participants have access to coaching support, trainings, technical assistance, classroom materials, equipment, and incentives to help them realize their site’s unique goals.
Quality Counts Siskiyou offers incentives, classroom equipment and materials, coaching, professional development trainings, and peer learning opportunities. To learn more, contact Karen Pautz at karenpautz@first5siskiyou.org.
